On Thursday April 28, 2022 The Louisa Rotary Club had a regular meeting at the First Baptist Church from 12-1PM. The Rotary recited The Pledge of Allegiance, Four-Way Test and Rotary Song. Rotary Officer Susie Chambers was recognized for her birthday.
Rotary President Pat Hart asked Rotary Members for any visitors, Rotary member and Deputy-Judge Vince Doty introduced State Rep. Scott Sharp of the New 100th District which includes all of Lawrence County and Ashland in Boyd County, to Louisa Rotary. Sharp is a Rotary member in Ashland, Kentucky.
Louisa Rotary President Pat Hart introduced Zeb Slone Freshman at LCHS and son of Mayor Harold and Marsha Slone to speak about his experience at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Conference District #6740 on April 23, 2022. Slone learned about different types of leadership and the ones that are most effective.
Slone said, “All the kids attending took turn in leadership roles during their day of activities including rock wall climbing and repelling, climbing a tower, zip-lining, canoeing then ending the day with a game called the “Amazing Race” to learn how to work as a team to accomplish the tasks in order to win the game. RYLA is an intensive leadership experience organized by Rotary clubs and districts where you develop your skill as a leader while having fun.

El-Hasa Shriners Children Lexington’s Board Member Potentate Eddie Hazelett talked to the Louisa Rotary about the Shriners Childrens Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. It was built seven yrs ago and has a Trauma Center and Heli-pad for Medical Helicopters and a sky-bridge to UK Hospital. The Shriners Hospital has a Budget of $14.6 million and has about 16,000 patients. Hazelett said “Denver, Colorado received the first X-Ray machine with no radiation and Shriners Hospital in Lexington was the second hospital in the US to receive this X-Ray machine.
El-Hasa Shriners Children Lexington’s Board Member Noble, Charlie Adkins transports patients in Ashland and has been the Dispatch Director for 53 yrs and is currently in charge of 1,500 children.
“When Covid-19 started it changed the way we transport patient’s with family,” Adkins said, “We could take several patients in one transport van, now only one family member can accompany the hospital trip.”
Hazelett also said the Shriners will be attending and performing at the Lawrence County Septemberfest Parade this Fall 2022 which is shaping up to be one of the best ever, mayor Harold Slone has said..
The mission of Shriners Hospitals is to: Provide the highest quality care to children with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries and other special healthcare needs within a compassionate, family-centered and collaborative care environment.
Established in 1922, the hospitals are substantially funded through the Shriners Hospital for Children endowment fund. The hospitals treat children with a variety of diseases including (but not limited to) scoliosis, osteogenesis imperfecta, legg calve perthes, and others. Burns and spinal injuries are also treated.

Rotary President Pat Hart asked if there was any news from the members regarding the good of Rotary.
Sherry Compton said, “Last week’s Rotary Hash and Bahama Mamas was a great success, and the Rotary Fundraiser made $3,100.”
Rotary Secretary Ellen Taylor said “We have 7 tickets left to Steel Magnolias at the Garden Theater,” ”
Tonight is Opening Night for Mountain Movers Theatre Company (MoMo) downtown Louisa at 7:30PM, Tickets are $30 single and $55 couple. This is a Rotary Fundraiser and Tim Robinson ARC President, has donated all tickets to the Louisa Rotary.

Rotary Member and LC Clerk Chris Jobe said “Lawrence County will be celebrating the Bicentennial (200 yrs old) of Louisa, Lawrence County, Kentucky Saturday April 30
starting at the Fred M Vinson Museum at 9AM. Lots of activities have been planned.”
Louisa Rotary President Pat Hart adjourned the meeting.
