LOUISA, KY — Louisa Rotary held their regular weekly meeting Thurs. August 16, 2019 and many Rotarians were in attendance. They started off discussing Septemberfest to wearing props and taking funny group photos.

First thing discussed was the need for volunteers for their Septemberfest booth. They discussed the possibility of hiring some outside help for the event. Rotary is known for their famous ‘Rotary hash’ and ‘Bahama Mamas’.

Next the Guest Speaker this week was Betsy Marcum of Betsy Lynn Photography. She resides here in Lawrence County and runs her business from Louisa near Main St. near the old Heston Funeral Home.

She said when she got into photography it was the new digital genre vs. the end of using film. She specializes in volume photos such as leagues, teams, weddings and event individual photos. She enjoys taking pictures of people and making those memories come to life not just in your phone.

“Most cell phones these days can capture pictures as well as a professional camera, but most people leave them stored in the phone and rarely get them printed anymore,” she said..

Ms. Marcum  talked about the importance of printing those pictures for two good reasons, one there’s a connection to a printed picture you hold or look at that can bring you back to those memories. And for two pictures that are burned onto a cd or usb can become corrupted after a period of time. She found herself in this predicament when going back to look at old pictures from a cd and the jpeg files had been corrupted.

Betsysaid the various techniques of how to get the best pictures possible. From how far to hold a camera to lining up your subjects in a grid angle and trying taking pictures from different angles.

“For example, try holding it up over the subject or from a side view angle,” Betsy said. “The best thing you can do is practice and make adjustments as you learn”.

She has now incorporated making banners and signs as part of her expanding business.

By the end of Rotary, she had all members wearing silly props and taking fun group pictures and happy to participate.

Next week’s Guest Speaker will be Chris Wilson of Wilson’s Funeral Home.
