Last Thursday the Louisa Rotary Club met to discuss upcoming summer activities and award one of their scholarships to, recent Lawrence County graduate, Kiersten Pannel. Pannel won the Good Citizenship Scholarship, as she has demonstrated, “Service above self,” according to the Rotary Club Foundation. Students who win this scholarship have upheld themselves to the Rotary Club’s moral code, “The Four Way Test (of the things we think, say or do.)”
The Four Way Test is as follows:
- Is it the truth?
- Is it fair to all concerned?
- Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
- Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
After awarding the Good Citizenship Scholarship, the remaining club members discussed the upcoming summer agenda. Plans for the upcoming rodeo in Lawrence were reviewed, as the date for the rodeo stands at July 31st. The rotary will be attending the rodeo to serve their famous Rotary Hash, starting around lunch time. Some of the festivities planned for the rodeo are the lawnmower races and greased pig competition set for 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
Briefly discussed was the upcoming induction of new rotary officers. The club is currently looking at hosting the event at Louisa First Baptist. Also discussed was the layout for the appreciation dinner the rotary is holding for the food bank members in Louisa. This dinner is scheduled for July 1st.
