Lazer reporter Tane Woods Mosley speaks to Louisa Rotary about the community's role in supporting recovering addicts so they can rejoin the real world.

LOUISA, Ky. — The Louisa Rotary Club met for its weekly meeting Thursday , August 4,2016 at the First Baptist Church. Lawrence Co. Schools chief and Rotary member Dr. Rob Fletcher was recognized for his birthday. Among those recognized was Dr. Mark Wheeler’s son, Andrew, he is also a Rotary Scholar planning on attending Alice Lloyd College and majoring in Physical Education.

Announcements included that tonight –  August 4, 2016 –  is the last night of the Rotary Auction with several great items left, and the progress of the last two nights have been successful. Rotary President, Lindsey Case, also mentioned that tonight they are adding another phone because several people experienced a busy signal last night.

This week’s speaker was Tane’ Woods Mosley, who spoke about her personal story with addiction and recovery. She told about her experience with the Hopkinsville, Ky. Rotary Club and how they played a key role in the opportunities that eventually led to her becoming a productive member of society during her recovery.

“It took people in the community that had the means to give me gainful employment, to be willing to take a chance on me,” Ms. Mosley said. “How do we expect people to change if we are not willing to give them a chance?”  She also stated that community members need to stand behind organizations like ARC in Louisa, stop the stereotyping, and build these people up, rather than tear them down even further.

“When I saw other people viewing me in a positive light, having confidence in me, and thinking what I had to offer was special, I began to believe that, too!” she said. She made it personal by telling of how her life is now as a Lazer reporter, how it has changed everyone she loves for the better, and that she has made it her personal goal to help others who still suffer.

At this time the meeting was adjourned with members looking forward to tonight’s auction.
