SUMMER BUMMER: LOUISA MAYOR ANNOUNCES THE LOUISA CITY POOL WILL NOT OPEN AND WILL REMAIN CLOSED FOR THE 2020 SEASON

MAY 22, 20202 – written by WADE QUEEN

It looks like it is going to be a long, hot, and especially way drier than normal summer for residents of Louisa, specifically, the children of Louisa (and you could probably add Fort Gay area kids for this, as well as any Lawrence County children too).

Mayor Harold Slone announced at a short news conference on Friday morning that the Louisa City Pool will not open for the 2020 season.

“I don’t see it feasible to open it up at all this season. Most cities around me have definitely announced none this year,” Mayor Slone said in the news conference.

Local residents who have already scheduled a pool party for the late spring into the summer, can contact Louisa City Hall to request a full refund.

Lawrence County Fair officials said Friday they will wait “a couple of weeks” before deciding on whether or not to cancel the fair this year.

Next up: the wait see if the Louisa Fourth of July celebrations gets scuttled.

With the Louisa Septemberfest already canceled, it is likely that horse has left the barn, and is well north of the 50/50 percent highway of cancellation, too.

Harold if you are not opening the pool this year you need to have something in place for these kids to do.

You do understand John that the reason he isnt opening the pool is because they can’t insure social distancing between the kids, right? What activity do you suggest that he “HAS TO DO” that can be done safely and practice social distancing? Maybe you can come and volunteer to help with that situation!

How about movies in the park? Very easy to apply social distancing there. By the way I will not lower myself to a level to argue the solution.

Wasn’t an argument. Movies in the park don’t keep kids busy during the day…… sending kids to the park after dark is. It necessarily the safest thing to do in any Tiwn.

The Mayor makes good money. He raised his own salary, we all know that. This is part of the job he was elected to do. Figure something out for these kids to do.

The pool will never open again. I would be shocked if you ever see Septemberfest again, as well.

I’d like to see the pool open again someday but I could let Sep Fes go for sure!!!
