Congratulations to Sgt. Steven Wilburn upon his graduation of supervisors’ academy. Sgt. Wilburn becomes the second LPD officer to complete the program behind Chief Greg Fugitt.

“This is a great opportunity for Louisa Police Department and for Sgt. Wilburn, which allows him to eligible for higher positions such as lieutenant or chief within our agency.” stated Chief Fugitt.

Sgt. Steven Wilburn

On June 24, Gov. Andy Beshear and the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) announced that 24 law enforcement officers from agencies across the commonwealth graduated the Academy of Police Supervision (APS) Class 89. APS is a three-week, 122-hour training program targeted for officers who are on their agency’s promotion list to become sergeants or lieutenants.

“I congratulate you on taking the next step in your law enforcement career,” Gov. Beshear said. “The leadership training DOCJT provides to Kentucky’s law enforcement leaders is incomparable. I wish you all the best as take on positions of leadership within your agency and continue to serve your community.”

APS was launched in 2003 as one of DOCJT’s illustrious leadership courses aimed at developing and shaping future and current leaders in law enforcement agencies across the commonwealth. The training program is a deep dive into how to positively influence groups of people, as well as how to apply situational leadership, demonstrate an understanding of constitutional and administrative law, emotional and social intelligence, ethical decision making, problem solving, emotional survival, and public speaking.

“Having capable leaders is a valuable asset to law enforcement agencies throughout Kentucky,” DOCJT Commissioner Nicolai Jilek said. “I commend these leaders on completing APS and encourage them to lead purposefully and stay humble.”
