Lawrence Co. Middle School Football Defeats Greenup Co. 14-8, thumps Ashland 38-0

Gray Derifield is doing it from both sides of the ball for Lawrence Co. middle this season.

After falling for the first time on Tuesday the Bulldogs took care of the Musketeers behind touchdowns from Gray Derifield and Darren Brewer. 

Magoffin Co. 24 Lawrence Co. 12 ( Tuesday ) 

Trailing 8-0 late in the second quarter Cameron Preece intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown to cut the Hornet lead to 8-6. 

In the second half Lawrence Co. took the lead 12-8 when Gray Derifield took a direct snap and raced 37 yards to the end zone for a touchdown with 4:14 left  in the third quarter. 

Just a few plays later Magoffin Co. took the lead for good on a 51 yard touchdown run and two point conversion to make it 16-12. 

Later in the third quarter the Hornets extended their lead and then held on for the road victory. 

Lawrence Co. 38 Ashland 0 

A banged-up Lawrence Co. Middle School football team traveled to Ashland on Thursday, August 31 and came away with a dominant 38-0 win. 

Playing without quarterback Mitchell Frazier and receiver Koltyn McDowell who are both out with injuries, the Dawgs were lights out on both sides of the football. 

Chandler Preece had 9 carries for 166 yards, scored 2 touchdowns and added 2 two-point conversions. 

Gray Derifield, filling in at QB for the injured Frazier, had 7 carries for 102 yards and a touchdown, and added to the scoring with a 60 yard punt return for a touchdown. 

Running back Darren Brewer had 5 carries for 40 yards and a touchdown and a two-point conversion. 

Defensively, Preece led the Dawgs with 13 tackles, including 7 tackles for loss. Hayden Thomas had 2 sacks to go with 7 tackles, and Derifield chipped in 8 tackles. 

The stout Lawrence Co. defense allowed Ashland only 40 yards of offense.

Thursday September 28th at Boyd Co. 

Thursday October 5th at Home vs Perry Co.
