LOUISA FOOD CITY. FORT GAY, WEST VIRGINIA DOLLAR GENERAL.
Two more large retail grocery store chains who have a local presence have joined alongside the Wal-Mart company in the major changing of their operations due to the across the nation corona virus pandemic
Grocery company Food City has joined Dollar General stores with all their stores with a change in the hours they are open, as well. Both are designating opening hour for senior citizen shoppers.
This includes the Food City in Louisa, and also the two Dollar General stores in Louisa and the new Dollar General store across the river in Fort Gay, West Virginia.
In a statement release earlier this week on the company’s official Facebook page, Food City announced new operating hours amid the corona virus COVID-19 pandemic. According to the statement, all their stores will now operate between the hours of 7 A.M. and 10 P.M. daily.
The Food City company is also inviting customers 65 years old and older, along with other at-risk shoppers, to shop in its stores between 7 A.M. and 8 A.M. in order to avoid busier shopping periods.
Food City says the change is temporary and will provide associates additional time to restock and sanitize its stores.
Meanwhile. the Dollar General company announced this past Monday that they would also be implementing new changes to their daily operations by dedicating the first hour of opening to senior citizens only.
Most Dollar General stores (and along all other brands of grocery and supply businesses) throughout the nation have been left with empty shelves as shoppers are buying in bulk to prepare in case they become isolated for a long period of time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beginning on this past Tuesday, March 17th. Dollar General strongly encouraged that the first hour of operations each day be dedicated solely to the shopping needs of senior customers, who are one of the groups most vulnerable to the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Dollar General says that they want to provide at-risk customers with the ability to purchase the items they need and want at the beginning of each day to avoid busier and more crowded shopping periods.
Executive officials of the Dollar General company stated in their press release that other customers plan their shopping trips around this time frame allotted for senior citizens and allow those customers in our communities the ability to shop during the first hour that stores are open.
Dollar General stores will continue with their current opening hours but will close one hour early to allow employees time to clean and restock store shelves, as well as for their own health and well-being.
From this senior, THANK YOU!!
Thanks you for your help!
I think all places including dollar general & real grocery stores should all close. The whole US should close for 2 weeks & get it over with. This is wrong for forcing your employees to work bc i guarentee they would agree with closing for 2 weeks. They r risking their health & families health bc these big conplanies make them feel as if they will lose their jobs. companies have the decency to close or give the option. You all have given no option. Wait til one of your ceo’s gets it then u may feel differently. Take poll & let them speak for themselves.
Some dollar General don’t stock the shelves they just throw in middle of isleswhere you can not get around mostly the one’s in at augustinethe one on A1A everything any more just shoved everywhere in the middle of isles
As a store manager for Dollar General, it’s has been a very tough time! All of my employees, including myself, are terrified of getting the virus or even worse, taking it home to our families! Being considered an essential business, apparently we can’t close. I wish they would just make makeshift mock grocery stores, run by national guard with full hazmat suits on, shut down the country for three weeks, and get this over with!! I have an immune compromised spouse, along with very young children at home..who I don’t want to be responsible for giving the virus to. It truly isn’t fair to keep just our stores open, and force us to work.
Now, on the flip side of this. DG is allowing those who need to stay home for whatever reason, to stay home without fear if losing their jobs. I do love working for the company, but I don’t like having to stay open!
They need to shut down the stores, or implement pick up only at DG stores. DG is not giving it’s employees bonus or hazard pay for working. Making just above minimum wage isn’t worth the risk. Stay home people!!!!
What about dollar general employees that are over 65 to 75.how will they be protected.they have to be in close contact while waiting on customers.if they choose to not come in do they loose there income or there job.
This would be an awesome time to bring the order online and pick up system to Lawrence County. Solves both problems.
I agree this would be a good time to start online shopping and delivery. The problem is nobody would want to pay for this service.
