DAR HOLDS FEBRUARY MEETING WITH VALENTINE’S THEME

 

 

The February meeting for the Louisa Chapter DAR was held on February 26, 2019 in the Cafe of the LOUISA FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH. Meeting was called to order by Regent Sabrina May. Opening DAR Ritual was performed by members.

Minutes were read by Secretary Lynn Courtney and Treasurers report by Evelyn DeBoard.

Registrar, Reba Whitt, reported that the Chapter has one potential new member.

Chaplain, Sheila Kensinger, gave the sunshine report of cards that were sent to DAR members and family in time of sickness or for other occasions.

Also a memorial service, performed by Sheila Kensinger, was held for Mavis Bartram Castle on January 19, 2019 at the Bartram Chapel Community Church in Fort Gay, WV. Those in attendance were Regent Sabrina May, Lynn Courtney, and Lynette Chaffin.

The Indian minute was read by Lynette Chaffin and Theresa Chaffin read a National Defense article.

Myrtle Walker, Librarian, reported on events for Trinity teachers.

Nine members participated in a rock painting class at Masterpiece Cafe. The painted rocks, valentine cards, and candy were presented to the teachers and scholarship judges.

The scholarship winner for this year is Lincoln Rose.  An invitation to Lincoln, and his mother and father to attend the end of year meeting held in May was extended.

Some activities from December thru February were:  serving hot chocolate to people attending the Christmas tree lighting ceremony;  delivering Christmas cards to the residents and lap blankets to the Veterans at the Jordan Center

As usual the hostesses, Carolyn Thomson, Nancy Bush, Evelyn DeBoard,and Lynn Courtney, did a wonderful job in decorating in red and pink for a Valentine theme. And a gracious buffet meal of chicken salad croissants, pimento cheese, cheese ball, fruit and vegetable trays, chips and dip, nuts, and candy. The dessert table was filled with a Texas sheet cake and mini cupcakes.

 

The next meeting will be held on March 26, 2019 in the Cafe of the Louisa First Baptist Church at 6:00 pm.

    At one time the DAR was gathering information on one-room schools including stories, pictures, memories, etc. I am researching the same for a future Lazer recollection article, so I’d like to know of anything that is available. Glad to give you credit.
