LOUISA DAR CHAPTER HOLDS ANNUAL AWARDS DINNER

 The Louisa Chapter of DAR met May 23, 2017 in the cafe of the Louisa First Baptist Church for the Annual awards and Installation of new officers for the 2017-2019 year. After the opening Ritual and Prayer by Chaplain Lynnette Chaffin awards were presented.

The Louisa DAR 2017 Good Citizen Scholarship Award winner Brayden West and his parents

This Chapter of DAR has given Scholarships for over 75 years to a deserving Senior. The winner of this years Good Citizen Scholarship Award was Brayden West, the son of Deanna and Brad West. Each recipient is required to write an essay and read it at the Awards dinner. Brad was presented with a $500.00 DAR Scholarship and earlier had also received the SAR Scholarship of $1000.00 provided by Sam Thompson for the John Howe SAR Chapter.

Molly Oberlick was presented the Community Service Award.

Certificates of Appreciation for DAR work were; Faye Sparks, Lynn Courtney, Myrtle Walker, Reba Whitt, Linda Holt, Freddie Mae Daniels, Sabrina May, Evelyn DeBoard, Glenda Grayson, Patricia Hatfield, Nancy Bush, Peggy Nelson, Lynette Chaffin, Donna Childers, and Wanda Cassady.

Awards for Historic Preservation

Reba Whitt, Evelyn DeBoard, Sabrina May, Patty Ferrell, Linda Holt, Patricia Hatfield, Faye Sparks, and Lynn Courtney.

Award for 100 % Spirit Award to Donna Childers, Best supporting member of the Year to Patricia Hatfield, Regents Choice Award to Lynn Courtney, and Outstanding Chapter Member of the Year to Reba Whitt.
Certificates for work with Huntington VA Hospital to; Reba Whitt, Lynn Courtney, Sabrina May, and Linda Holt.

State Literacy Chairman, Patricia Hatfield, and Peggy Nelson, Nancy Bush, Patty Ferrell, Reba Whitt, Lynn Courtney, and Regent Mary Ellen Reid were featured in the National DAR News publication for the chapters participation in the Literacy program.

Melanie W. Adkins, Susan Berthold, Kathryn Marie Compton, Anna Marie Gasser, Martha Reed Holder, Evelyn Nadine Meek, Mary Diane, Sims, Rosie Pfost, and Myrtle Ann Walker.

Judy Carter, 6th District Director, Installed the new Officers for the 2017 – 2019 year. Regent; Sabrina May, First Vice Regent; Faye Sparks, Chaplain; Evelyn DeBoard, Treasure; Carolyn Thompson, Registrar; Reba Whitt, Recording Secretary; Lynn Courtney, Corresponding Secretary;Glenda Grayson, Historian; Mary E. Reid, Librarian; Myrtle Ann Walker, Honorary Regent; Mary E. Reid ( Honorary position for years of service). Mary Ellen addressed the Chapter as she completed her 6th year as Regent and passed the Gavel to new Regent Sabrina May.

Sixth District director Judy Carter, outgoing DAR Regent Mary Ellen Reid, and Amanda Tinsley, Poage Chapter Regent.

Special guest Louisa mayor Harold Slone

Invited guests were Louisa Mayor Harold Slone, American Legion Ben Hopkins, Don Wolfe commander of VFW, and Tom Burgess. Also Judy Carter, 6th District Director and Poage Chapter Regent Amanda Tinsley.

The Louisa Chapter DAR invited guests included local veterans group representatives. 

Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Rebel Barn. Hostesses were Kay Maynard, Jenny Smith, Donna Childers, and Rosie Pfost.

Next meeting will be Tuesday August 22, 2017 at 6:00 in the Louisa First Baptist Church Cafe.
