LOUISA CITY COUNCIL VOTES TO GO WITH STATE RECOMMENDATION ON MEDICAL MARIJUANA…

On Tuesday July 9, 2024 The Louisa City Hall had a Regular Scheduled Monthly Meeting at Louisa City Hall, 215 N Main Cross Street, Louisa, Kentucky 41230 at 6PM. Mayor Harold Slone was in attendance along with Louisa City Council Members Joey McClanahan, Caleb Farley, Rose Lester, Coty Roe and Keith Chaffin. Gary Robertson and Eldred E. (Bud) Adams, City Atty , were absent.

MAYOR HAROLD SLONE UPDATES

  • Mayor Slone stated the Town Hill project is 95% complete. There is a PRV Pressure Releasing valve that needs parts replaced, parts have been ordered, should be completed next week.
  • Next Slone said the patching of asphalt on top of town hill should be completed soon. The Roller is in the garage being repaired then project will be finished.
  • Finally Slone said Delong Branch is in the process of starting in mid July. Still needs dirt removed and pipe in ground.APPROVE MINUTES
  • Approve Minutes for June 1, 2024 Special Meeting. Motion by Joey McClanahan 2nd by Keith Chaffin. None Opposed.ADDING NEW CLERK TO BANK ACCOUNTS
    The Louisa City Council approved adding Bridget James, Louisa City Clerk, to bank accounts and removing past Louisa City Clerk, Kathy Compton. Motion by Keith Chaffin 2nd by Coty Roe. None Opposed.

    AMENDMENT TO TOURISM ORDINANCE
    There has been a joint Ordinance between the city and the county since 2000 with the Lawrence County Tourism Commission. This Ordinance will basically add that all appointments will be approved by the Louisa City Council and Lawrence County Fiscal Court. The name will also be changed to Louisa/Lawrence County Tourism Commission. Also, any budget will have to be passed by the City of Louisa and Lawrence County Fiscal Court. Since Eldred E. (Bud) Adams was absent the Ordinance will be voted on at the next meeting.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA CONSIDERATION
The Louisa City Council had a Motion by Caleb Farley 2nd by Joey McClanahan to have City Atty Bud Adams to fix the Ordinance to say the city of Louisa agrees with the State of Kentucky to allow Medical Marijuana Consideration Ordinance. The ordinance will be designed to allow the city to get tax revenue from any future medical marijuana sales in the city. The 3 choices for the council were Agree with State to allow Medical Marijuana, vote no on Medical Marijuana, or put it on the ballot. All voted ‘Yes” except Rose Lester who voted ‘no’.

AMENDMENT TO CODE ENFORCEMENT MEETING DATES
The Code Enforcement Meetings will be changed to the second Wednesday on even months at 7PM at Louisa City Hall. Teddy Newsome is the Code Enforcement Officer.

STREET PARKING ISSUES MEADOWBROOK AREA
Mayor Harold Slone stated that a resident called complaining about excessive parking on Meadowbrook Lane and Preece Drive. The mayor said there is no law in Louisa against parking on the street. Will discuss with City Atty at the next meeting.

6. Amendment to Code Enforcement Meeting dates – The vote on this Amendment will be at the next meeting.
7. Street parking issues Meadowbrook area – The street issues will be discussed with City Atty at the next meeting.
8. Council Comments – None
9. Audience Comments – None
10. Executive Session – Discussed possible property acquisition.
11. Adjourn – Motion by Joey McClanahan 2nd by Caleb Farley.

The next meeting will be held at Louisa City Hall, 215 N. Main Cross Street, Louisa, Kentucky, 41230 on Tuesday August 13, 2024 at 6PM.
