LOUISA CHAPTER DAR APRIL MEETING HELD IN ‘HAWAII’

On April 24th, 2018 Louisa Chapter DAR held its regular monthly meeting at the Louisa First Baptist Church Café. Members were welcomed by Regent Sabrina May and the meeting began with the Opening Ritual.

A wonderful catered meal was provided by the hostess of the month, Shelia Kensinger and the Café was adorned with Hawaiian décor for her “Aloha Spring” theme.

Minutes from the previous meeting were read by Recording Secretary Lynn Courtney and approved by the chapter.

1st Vice Regent and State Literacy Chair Patricia Hatfield gave a heartfelt short program on the passing of former First Lady Barbara Bush who was a lifetime DAR member and literacy advocate.

A spring Hawaiian Luau for DAR members was provided by hostess Sheila Kensinger.

Chaplain Evelyn Deboard gave a report on members dealing with sickness, a devotional, and handed out information on the National Day of Prayer.

American Heritage Committee Member Theresa Chaffin gave a program on the Navajo Code Talkers utilized during WWI and WWII.

Louisa DAR members Nadine Meek and Peggy Nelson with the pollinators they received at the meeting.Regent Sabrina May handed out seed packets of pollinators donated by the Lawrence County Extension office and encouraged members to start their own pollinator garden in a conservation effort.

In addition, a special election was held to replace interim officers with permanent ones to finish the current term for the offices of 2nd Vice Regent, Treasurer, and Historian.

The election results are as follows:

 

*  2nd Vice Regent – Teresa Pigg,

*  Treasurer – Evelyn Deboard,

*  Historian – Theresa Chaffin, and

*  Chaplain – Shelia Kensinger.

The new officers’ terms will begin at the end of the Annual Meeting in May, Regent Sabrina May said.

The new DAR Cookbook is hot off the press and for sale by local chapter members or at the Lawrence Co. Library. Evelyn Deboard and the editors of the cookbook worked hard in getting the recipes together and getting the book ready for publication.

The next scheduled meeting is May 22nd at 6pm, which is Louisa Chapter’s Annual Meeting. The meeting will include a catered meal provided by Rebel Barn Catering. All members are reminded that the meal is $15 and the deadline to RSVP and pay for your meal is May 10th.
