1917 — 2018

Lida E. Blackburn (AKA Lida Lu), age 100, peacefully entered the Kingdom of God on January 9, 2018 at Monterey Nursing Home in Grove City, dOhio.

Lida was born on February 25, 1917 in Blaine, KY. She was one of 18 siblings and grew up on a farm where she learned to love animals; horses especially. She was married to Paul Thompson (deceased) and John A. Blackburn (deceased). Lida spent many a day at Beulah Park where she enjoyed great friendships and horse racing. She owned the horse “Pud Muddles” which gave her such joy. Lida was a fun-loving, spunky, strong, determined, loving and lovable person who will be greatly missed.

She is also predeceased by her parents, James and Rena (Tilson) Hardy, many siblings, step-sons, Dean and Dwight Blackburn and step-grandsons, Christopher and Darwin Blackburn.

Lida is survived by her step-son, Duane (Tina) Blackburn, step-grandchildren, Thomas (Shae) Blackburn, Angela Blackburn, Tony Blackburn; great niece, Sherry McFadden and her best friend and caretaker, John Wilson. She is leaving behind 17 step-great grandchildren and 3 step great-great-grandchildren. Lida will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, her easy laughter and accepting nature.

The celebration of Lida’s life will be at Newcomer Grove City, 3393 Broadway on Saturday, January 20th, where the showing is from 10am -12pm.

It will be followed by a special service led by Pastor Bret Rizzo. Interment will take place on Saturday following the service at Hamden Cemetery, 39580 St. Rte. 93 in Hamden, OH.

Special thanks go to Dianna Berry, Bre Nance and Carla Goody of the Dementia Unit at Monterey Nursing Care Center, whose loving care helped sustain Lida. In lieu of flowers and honoring Lida’s love for horses, special donations can be made to this horse rescue organization: The Shepherds Corner at Trinity Farms, 4267 Courter Road SW, Pataskala, OH 43062.
