KENTUCKY STATE POLICE CAPTURE AND ARREST LETCHER COUNTY MAN WANTED IN MURDER OF PREGNANT LETCHER COUNTY WOMAN
EVIL DOUBLE MURDER SUSPECT (AND HILLBILLY ROMAN REIGNS DOPPELGANGER) LAWRENCE EUGENE HALCOMB, 39, OF BLACKEY, KENTUCKY; WAS ARRESTED KENTUCKY STATE POLICE SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, IN THE SHOOTING DEATH OF A PREGNANT LETCHER COUNTY WOMAN ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28.
The suspect in the shooting death of a pregnant Letcher County woman was arrested early Saturday morning by law enforcement agencies.
The deadly criminal incident began on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at approximately 3:29 P.M., when Kentucky State Police, Post 13, in Hazard, KY., received a call in reference to a shooting on Flint Fields Branch Road, in the Linefork community of Letcher County.
Upon KSP Troopers arrival, they located a female victim deceased on scene from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as Vanessa R. Collier Halcomb, 43, of Linefork, KY. Vanessa Halcomb was pronounced deceased by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office.

The initial investigation by state police led them in determining that Lawrence Eugene Halcomb, 39, of Blackey, KY., as the suspect in the homicidal shooting. A search of the area was conducted, assisted by Kentucky State Police aircraft, but Lawrence Halcomb was not located.
Lawrence Halcomb was described by the KSP alert bulletin as a white male, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 185 pounds and that he had dark colored hair and brown eyes. The KSP stated that if anyone had any information of the whereabouts of Halcomb, you were urged to contact Kentucky State Police, Post 13 in Hazard immediately, or by calling their local 911.
Lawrence Halcomb was charged and wanted with active arrest warrants for MURDER, 1ST DEGREE, and FETAL HOMICIDE, 1ST DEGREE. State police officials warned that he was to be considered armed and dangerous.
Trooper Matt Gayheart, public information officer with Post 13 in Hazard, said Lawrence Halcomb was located Friday night and was arrested after a brief standoff.
There were initial reports late Friday morning that state police had found Lawrence Halcomb, but the Kentucky State Police pushed back on reports that the Letcher County murder suspect had been located.

“We got reports that he might be in a particular area,” said Trooper Matt Gayheart, who is the public information officer for KSP Post 13 in Hazard. “Troopers are going door-to-door in that area to check everything out.”
Trooper Gayheart also said police are not releasing the location they are investigating for officer safety. He said they don’t know if he is monitoring media reports or if he has someone else doing so for him.
But by early Friday evening, Trooper Gayheart said KSP had received information regarding the general area of Lawrence Halcomb’s location and they canvassed homes in the area.The Kentucky State Police Special Response Team has arrested Lawrence Eugene Halcomb, shortly before 2 A.M., on Saturday, September 30, after KSP-SRT sent a drone into the house on Hobart’s Bottom where Lawrence Halcomb had been surrounded by police since around 8 P.M. Friday evening.
Lawrence Halcomb was apparently unresponsive and seated with a gun between his legs. Police deployed a flash-bang and CS gas, then entered the house and cuffed Lawrence Halcomb. Police radio transmissions indicate troopers gave Lawrence Halcomb Narcan and called emergency medical services. Lawrence Halcomb was taken to the Whitesburg Hospital and had not yet been booked into jail Saturday morning.
Eugene Halcomb was taken to the local hospital following his arrest, after appearing to show signs of being overdosing, possibly an attempted suicide, but he was then booked in the Letcher County Detention Center in Whitesburg, KY., on Saturday, September 30, at 7:00 P.M. Lawrence Holcomb is being held without bond.
Lawrence Halcomb is not only charged with murder and fetal homicide in the death of Vanessa Halcomb, but also with a first-degree strangulation case from August 10, 2023; and case charges of felony first-degree fleeing police in a motor vehicle, felonies first-degree wanton endangerment & first-degree wanton endangerment-police officer, and also reckless driving, from August 16, 2023.
In further proof of his past violent tendencies, in February 2013, Lawrence Eugene Halcomb was arrested in Leslie County, KY. in a case where he was charged with second-degree arson, first-degree wanton endangerment, and first-degree kidnapping of an adult and first-degree kidnapping of a minor.
This Letcher County murder case remains under investigation by KSP Post 13 detective Scott Caudill.
