Start the Season Off With Impressive Win

8/24/2023 Paintsville, KY. — The Lawrence County Middle School Football team traveled to Paintsville on Thursday to play the Johnson Central Middle School Eagles. After a first half that would see the Bulldogs only scoring 6 points, the second half was all fireworks.

The LCMS Bulldogs scored at will in the second half and came away victorious with a score of 42-28. If Johnson County did not know Grey Derifield before the game, they did not leave without knowing his name and abilities.

The passing game was exciting, with the “dynamic duo” of Quarterback Mitchell Frazier and Grey Derifield leading the way. Frazier completed 8/10 passes for 270 yards and 5 touchdowns. Derifield had 200 yards receiving and 5 receiving touchdowns. Derifield added to his night with 100 yards rushing, 50 yards on the return game, and scored touchdowns/2-point conversions on ground as well. Frazier also scored a 2-point conversion on the ground.  Chandler Preece had more than 100 yards rushing and a 2-point conversion. Colton McDowell had two receptions for 70 yards.  The offensive line was dominant. The Bulldog’s defensive was disruptive with 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.

COACH’S COMMENTS…

The head coach, Travis McCoy, says:

“…With this being my first year as a head coach, I am very proud of the determination of the players showed not only in this game, but also during practice every day. The chemistry between Frazier and Derifield and really the whole team is something they have been building since age 6. You must see in person to believe it. To go out and perform like that against a great opponent and come out with a victory shows the type of commitment these players have shown since February.”

“…We are very thankful for the outpouring of support from our kids, parents, administration, and staff (even at an away game). The support from the middle school administration (Mrs.Sammons, Mr. Short and Mr. Adkins) has been awesome and we are grateful.”
