Louisa, KY – Lawrence County High School welcomes Chandler Thompson, 28,  a 2009 LCHS graduate as the new head coach for boys basketball, beginning with the 2019-20 school year.

Chandler Thompson

Over the past nine years Thompson has served Boyd County Schools as director of middle school basketball/head coach, junior varsity head basketball coach, director of the Boyd County Youth Basketball League, varsity head assistant basketball coach and special education teacher.

Throughout his last five years at Boyd County High School, Thompson helped to lead Boyd County to five district championships, one regional championship, two region runner-ups, and five 20-win seasons.

Chandler is married to Hillary and they have one daughter Laney.

Lawrence County High School Athletic Director Travis Feltner spoke of Thompson’s selection and how he will positively shape the boys basketball program.

“We are extremely blessed and honored to welcome Coach Thompson to our family, school, and community to serve in the capacity of head basketball coach at Lawrence County High School.”

“This was not an easy process, nor one that was taken lightly as we had several highly qualified applicants.  With that being said, we feel that Chandler was the best fit for our program to continue to build upon the solid foundation we have with our men’s basketball program.”
Lawrence Co. Superintendent Dr. Robbie Fletcher welcomed Thompson back to the school system.
“ After the news of Coach Thompson’s hire became known, I received several messages from educators in our region.  Each person made very positive comments about his coaching ability, his character, his teaching ability, and his love of kids. These qualities will help him continue our program’s success. We welcome this LC alum back to the Bulldog family.”

“…I am extremely blessed and thankful to be given the opportunity to bring my family home and serve a program that means so much to me.  I am very thankful that the administration has put their trust in me to become the next head coach of the Lawrence County Boys Basketball Program.

“…I would also like to thank my friends and colleagues in the Boyd County School District for the last 9 years.  I will forever be thankful that God allowed me to spend the time there.  Those relationships will last a lifetime.

“… This program means everything to me.  I’m so excited to start working to develop these young men into better students, athletes, and members of the community.  I hope that I am blessed with the opportunity to spend the rest of my teaching and coaching career right here at Lawrence County as a Bulldog!”

“…The last 14 years that I’ve spent with Coach Anderson have been the best years of my life.  I would not be the man I am today without him.”
