Lawrence County Tourism Minutes, Dec. 18, 2023

Prepared by: Susie Chambers, Secretary

The Lawrence County Tourism Commission met on Monday, December 18, 2023 at 5:30 pm at the Fred Vinson Tourism Office. Members in attendance were Wes Kingsmore, Debbie Hill, Christy Moore, Chris Jobe, Brenda Hardwick and Susie Chambers. Also in attendance was Susan Salyer from the Levisa Lazer.

The meeting was called to order by Wes and he also gave the opening prayer. The November minutes were read and approved with a motion by Chris and a second by Brenda. All in favor. The treasurer’s report was presented showing a balance of $17,120.22. Susie made a motion to accept the report with a second by Christy. All in favor.

Under old business Brenda reported that there were over 300 children at the Country Christmas celebration. There was a total of 500 attendees altogether. The Christmas decoration contest has 18 residential entries and no business entries. Our simple budget has been completed and will be presented to the fiscal court for approval on Tuesday, December 19th.

Under new business we discussed Fred Vinson’s birthday in January. We will support this celebration if the staff of the museum wants to do something. Cratis William’s birthday is on April 4th and we would like to plan something to commemorate that day. Christy mentioned that the blue trail would be perfect for a trail run. The mountain bike trail at Fuller Station, Rt. 3398, is ready to have the trail cut with the help of Brandon Dorner. Fiscal Court has been very helpful as well by clearing the land. A motion was made by Chris with a second by Debbie to put Janie Kegley Marcum on our events and music committee. All in favor.

With no further business to be brought before the board, Chris made a motion to adjourn with a second by Brenda. All in favor.

Our next regularly scheduled meeting will be on Monday, January 15th at 5:30 pm at the tourism office.
