Louisa Park remodeling getting mostly positive reviews, some complaints
Recent comments and calls to TheLevisaLazer.com office indicate that there are some complaints with policies at the newly upgraded LockView park on Lock Ave.
A resident of Lock Avenue, near the park who asked to not be named has notified Lazer staff of a problem with noise and cursing, as well as reports of fights amongst teenagers at all hours of the night.
There was also a complaint that a curfew sign at the park was removed and the shelter lights stay on 24 hours a day wasting electricity.
We reached out to local residents and city officials for comment.
Of the residents nearest to the park, other than the complaints received, that were contacted could not confirm a noise or cursing problem at the park. Residents did verify that one fight had taken place at the park in recent weeks, but it was resolved quickly by the Louisa Police Department. Most had no problems with the park or its activities.
City officials were contacted to comment. mayor Harold Slone explained that there is not a curfew at the park, and any curfew would have to be set by an ordinance through city council. The sign that was there was severely damaged and dangerous and not enforceable since an ordinance is not in place making a curfew the law.
He explained that the shelter lights are left on to deter theft and unlawful activity. City Police have also been instructed to regularly patrol the area and a closed circuit camera system is being installed to monitor the area for theft and unlawful activities.
Officials did say that they have received one phone call complaining about the park, however, attempts to contact the complaining party for resolution have been unsuccessful.
