In Other County government News:

UPDATE: Judge answers Lazer questions about layoffs…

LOUISA, Ky. — Two weeks after denying layoffs of county workers were coming soon because of lack of county funds, judge/Executive John Osborne and the fiscal court have apparently laid off four county road seasonal workers.

Osborne replied to Lazer questions about the move by county government Wednesday afternoon:

“…Mark

We have not laid off anyone off in the last 2 weeks it will be next week Mark. Thanks for your service on the Solid Waste Board.

Thanks

Judge Osborne…”

The news of four layoffs first came from the workers’ family and could not be immediately verified by Osborne. There may be other layoffs, as Osborne said. County funds are running lower this year because of the lack of coal severance and other state and federal grant programs have evaporated, Osborne has said. Plus, both the Jail transport system and the 911 program are running almost a quarter million dollars short of their annual budgets each.

Here is a message we got on Facebook today:

“…Just a thought for the day:

4 folks laid off at the County Road Department.

Pretty sure reason given was lack of work and funds. (Not sure of exact wording). oh by the way this county has taken in over 400 miles of roads to maintain, which is almost twice the # of roads in surrounding counties of comparison.

Sad really that poor oversight of funding results in layoffs for workers who have zero control over how their budget is spent.

Snow is coming. (Not to mention simple maintenance is plenty of work at any given time)

For those of you who complain with a full workforce and they never clear it quick enough….. You’ll need to get better tires and a good shovel.

Call if you want, while the manual laborers shrink the courthouse is full.

God bless those who lead us.”
