Vernal Wiley And Justin Wiley Died After Crash On US 23 “Large Truck Was Speeding Through Yellow Caution Light And Hit The Wiley Vehicle Causing Deaths,” John Kirk said
LOUISA, Ky. — On October 19, 2016, Vernal Ray Wiley and his son, Justin Charles Wiley, residents of Inez, Kentucky, were traveling west on Kentucky Rt. 645 in Martin County in a vehicle operated by Vernal Ray Wiley.
At the same time, Brian Jenkins was operating a flat bed tractor trailer traveling south on US 23 in Lawrence County.
The two vehicles “met” in Lawrence County at the junction of US 23 and Rt. 645 when the Wiley vehicle pulled onto US 23 and was traveling south when it was struck by the Jenkins truck resulting in a crash that demolished the Wiley vehicle, causing injuries to Vernal and Justin Wiley and resulting in their deaths.
According to Kirk Law Firm, which filed the lawsuit, the Jenkins vehicle was “going too fast.”
“That junction has a flashing yellow light, a light telling the big trucks and other traffic on US 23 to slow down,” Kirk said. “Sadly, Vernal or Justin cannot tell what happened, but other witnesses can.”
The Kirk Firm lawsuit, filed by attorney Phillip Blair, has as an exhibit, the affidavit of Danny Joe Harris, which states that the Jenkins truck was “traveling at a high rate of speed.”
“This was an awful tragedy,” Kirk said. “We will work very hard to see that justice is done for the Wiley family.”
