COACH’S COMMENTS

“… In the first practice we had a meeting with the girls and asked them what their goal was for this team and their reply was to be state champions. So we practiced everyday if it was raining we went indoors and worked on hitting and it paid off. These girls worked their tails off this summer making themselves ready to win it all, the dedication from these kids, their parents and all of us coaches was second to none. That was a big key to our success.
“…I just feel we outworked everyone else, if you look at our team we aren’t a real powerful team with big bats other than Taylor Blevins and Savanna Henderson. We just put the ball in play at a really high rate from #1 in our lineup all the way down to our 4 subs everyone put the ball in play and it showed with our 38-3 run differential in the state tournament.
“…Then you add that in with our ace pitcher Taylor Blevins throwing 54mph striking out 126 batters in 49 innings we quickly became a very tough team and it showed going 10-0 through District and State.
“…Our defense was very impressive as well our catcher Savanna Henderson threw out 7 base runners in 10 games and set the tone for us teams tried to steal and she would throw them out early and make them think twice before trying it again.
“.. It was a great honor to coach all these amazing girls hopefully they can look back some day and realize how much of an incredible summer they had becoming the 2019 UNDEFEATED State Champs!”

Wow! This bunch of girls have a great future, I’d say. I watch the women’s college softball regularly and see some outstanding players, but comparatively these younger girls are will on their way to greatness. That’s exciting. Putting the ball in play, having a good battery, and good defense is the ticket. Keep it up!
