Sign removal blitz starts Monday morning, October 19
LAWRENCE COUNTY – (October 16, 2020) – Crews from Highway District 12’s Lawrence County Maintenance have scheduled a sign removal blitz on Monday, October 19. All signs illegally placed on state right of way will be removed – this includes any type of signs: for political candidates, yard sales, businesses, real estate, or any other purpose.
Kentucky law and KYTC policy prohibit the placement of any signs – for any type of advertising – on state right of way. The prohibition includes signs attached to permanent state highway signs, utility poles, and guardrail.
“They are a potential sight distance hazard to motorists, they interfere with mowing crews, ditchline cleaning, litter pickup, and other maintenance operations,” said Todd Moran, Lawrence County Maintenance Superintendent.
Signs that are removed will be taken to the state highway garage and kept for two weeks. Unclaimed signs will be discarded. “We cannot guarantee that signs will not be damaged during the removal process,” Moran said.
Saw plenty of them on US-23 earlier with the Trump “rally” going on on the side of the road. Almost saw someone hit a car with a flag, too, they were standing so close to the road.
