The Lawrence County Sheriff Office in Louisa, KY. is warning the public of a scam that is going around in Lawrence County.

On Tuesday afternoon, August 1, officials with the LCSO said that the scammers are using the sheriff’s office phone number and claiming they are from Homeland Security. The scammers are using spoofing in order to mask the phone number.

The scammers are calling random people and are trying to obtain personal information by impersonating Homeland Security and claim the potential victim had their identity stolen or threaten to arrest the victim if they don’t pay a fine.

Officials with the Lawrence County Sheriff Office said they will never call civilians with demands and solicit money. They ask that if you receive this scam call to report it by visiting reportfraud.ftc.gov/.

Meanwhile, on Thursday afternoon, July 27, the Martin County Sheriff Office in Inez, KY. is warning the public of a scam that’s going around Martin County.

Officials are saying that a scammer has been impersonating the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and contacting the public to ask for money. The sheriff’s office said they are not soliciting money.

Officials are asking anyone who receives this scam call to contact the Martin County Sheriff’s Office at 606-298-2828 to report the call.
