LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ky. — Given the fact that Lawrence is a sizable county in area, the nearly 600 miles of county roads have been closed by order of Judge/Executive Phillip L. Carter during the winter blast last week. Carter lifted the order Sunday evening, a spokesperson in his office said this morning.
State roads, as well as US 23 were all cleared by Sunday morning but the hollows and hills remained snow covered in several areas.
“We’re trying to manage a huge territory with a handful of people so it definitely has been hard, nthe spokesperson said. “But we are getting through it. The thawing will help clear the snow but then we have to deal with slides and other problem so it’s a challenge.”
The court met in emergency special meeting Monday morning at 11:00 since the regular meeting last Tuesday bwas “snowed out”n with the courthouse closed through at Least Thursday. It is hard to tell if any offices were open or closed because they were not able to announce the situation.
You can see our fiscal court coverage which includes ‘finding’ most of the half million dollar discrepancy from last month.
Also, busses are not rolling this morning for Transportation director Rick Blackburn as the main office called off regular school for it’s 4th NTI day this year. It is a probability that there will be no busses Wednesday, either, although it has not been announced.
The BOE will meet tonight at LCHS at 6:00 pm to make up for the cancellation of the regular january meeting Last Monday.
Some flooding is expected as temps will reach the 60’s in the next day or so.
Tuesday, January 23, 2024, will be NTI Day #4 for all Lawrence County Schools.
