The Lawrence County Public Library hosted its second Summer Student Internship Program during the months of June and July. Fifteen interns between ages 13-18 provided 617 total service hours throughout the summer. Fourteen interns were Lawrence County students and one Tolsia High School student participated. Certificates and letters of recognition were given to each student to be used for scholarship or college applications.

The program was coordinated by LCPL Children’s Librarian, Deanna Farris, and LCPL School Liaison, Samatha Penix. “We couldn’t have accomplished everything we did this summer without the hard work of our interns. In addition to our Summer Reading Program we hosted the Summer Feed Program five days a week. With the help of our interns both programs were very successful. We are proud and thankful for their work,” Carlie Hillman, Library Director, said.

The internship program will be ongoing each summer. Applications for next summer will post on the library’s website in spring 2017.
