Pickle ball, Fair pageant lead off 2023 Fair

LAWRENCE COUNTY PRE-FAIR ACTIVIES

If the turnout for pre-fair activities is any indicator on the week, FAIR President Rick Blackburn says, “Fair will be a busy, but amazing time for our community.”.

Fair activities started with a, first ever, Pickleball tournament.  Head of the Pickleball committee, Mike and Mary Adams, were very pleased with the turnout.  There were players from our community, Pikeville, Ashland, and Huntington.  Pickle ballers could play in singles, doubles, and mixed divisions.  They also play on levels from beginner to more experience.  We had a great crowd to watch, as well as those playing in the tournament.  We are thankful for the use of the tennis courts from the Lawrence County High School, this allowed more matches to be going on at one time.  This sport seems to be one of the fastest growing sports and you find that to be true in our community as well.

Meanwhile, while Pickleball was in full swing, Tractor Supply was the stage for the Pet Pageant.  There were several different categories from cutest to ugliest and everything in between the community came out and supported the Lawrence County Humane Society.  There were 8 adoptions, so we look forward to seeing those in the contest next year.  We were glad the pet show was back in the county fair, after a few years transition hiatus.  There were also drug dog training demonstrations. Lawrence County FFA set up a concession, where proceeds were donated back to the humane society.

Pictures from the event coming soon:

The evening came to a close with the Lawrence County Fair Beauty Pageant!  Categories range from babies to Miss Lawrence County Fair.  Community members came to support their pageant entries, as well as, friends and classmates.  The pageant committee was happy with the turn out, but thought the older categories could have been affected by the Suessical downtown, which is an amazing program.    The pageant results and pictures are as follows:
