Wednesday evening accident claims one life

(Louisa, Ky) Lawrence Country Deputy Coroner Chris Wilson responded to a call from Lawrence County E911 concerning a tractor accident on the Right Fork of Irish Creek near Webbville Ky at approximately 8:55 pm on Wednesday night October 4, 2023.

William Edward Derefield
Deputy Wilson arrived on the scene at 9:41pm where he was assisted by the Webbville Fire Department, EMTs with local ambulance service, Emergency Management director Travis Hughes, and various neighbors and community members.
William Edward Derefield, 70 of Webbville was pronounce dead on the scene at 10:29 pm.

The LCCO extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Derefield.

Obituary information for Mr. Derefield

Billy Derefield 70 of Irish Creek Webbville, Kentucky passed away on October 4, 2023 following a tractor accident.

Billy was born September 3, 1953 at Louisa, Kentucky the son of the late Mont and Osie Young Derefield. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Tommy, Carl, and Infant Raymond Derefield and two sisters Norma Fannin and Infant Martha Bell Derefield.

Billy was a Timber Cutter and member of the Irish Creek Baptist Church. He was a pillar of the community always helping and assisting anyone in need, never expecting anything in return. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife Phyllis Jean Robertson Derefield; a brother Mont Derefield Jr.; two sisters Carolyn Sue Derefield and Brenda Kay Hinds; his best friend Joe Mitchell; and several special nieces and nephews he loved as his own. He also leaves behind 3 fur babies that miss him.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday October 9th at 3:00 pm at the William & Phyllis Derefield Cemetery at 2780 Right Fork Irish Creek Road Webbville, Kentucky with Pastor Lincus Hogston and Pastor Charlie Wilks officiating.

Friends may visit the family on Monday October 9th from noon until 2:00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home.

Care for Billy and his family has been entrusted to our family at Wilson Funeral Home.
