CSX announces crossing repairs in Floyd, Lawrence counties starting March 15

PIKEVILLE, KY (March 5, 2021) – Five CSX railroad crossings, two in Floyd County and three in Lawrence County, will close for repairs up to three days each starting next Monday, March 15.

The affected crossings and the scheduled start date for work on each are as follows:

  • KY 680 at Harold, Floyd County; start date March 15
  • KY 1426 at Banner, Floyd County; start date March 15
  • KY 2037 near Gallup, Lawrence County; March 30
  • KY 2037 near Chapman Community Park, Lawrence County; March 31
  • KY 644 between Walbridge and Holt, Lawrence County; March 31

Geoff Reeder, an official with Safety Services & Supply, the contractor for CSX, said that a surface team will remove each crossing’s asphalt, surface the track, then repave either the same day or the next day. Weather permitting, none of the crossings should be closed to traffic more than three days.

Accommodations will be made for first responders engaged in an active emergency calls, Reeder said. Otherwise, the crossings will be shut down and all other traffic will have to use alternative routes.
