4.A. Superintendent’s Update

4.A.1. March is Music in Our Schools month; A concert and a “Hall of Fame” ceremony will be conducted on March 22 at 10 am at LCHS.
4.A.2. Multiple education-related bills are “on the Governor’s desk” for approval:

· SB7 (payroll deductions)
· SB5 (process for parents to challenge material/curriculum that is “harmful to minors”)

SB150 (curriculum and prohibition of using non-birth sex pronouns)
· HB538 (procedures by schools for removal and return to class)
· HB13 (bus driver medical exam to 2 years)
· HB32 (provisions for hiring classified workers without high school diploma/equivalency)

4.A.3. At this point, the state legislature took no action to make school board elections partisan, and no action has been taken to help school districts that will have a decrease in funds as a result of moving from 2018-2019 ADA percentages to current ADA percentages. (Spreadsheet for all districts included.)

4.A.4. Mr. Burns and I are working with KDE concerning the process for allowing the local veterans’ group to utilize property for a veterans’ memorial.

4.A.5. The Big Sandy News and the Levisa Lazer representatives have been contacted concerning the posting of the recall notice of the double-nickel tax.
4.A.6. Preschool and kindergarten registration is set for Blaine, Fallsburg, and Louisa East.
4.A.7. LAVEC design plans are scheduled to be presented at the April Board meeting.

4.A.8. Thank you to our community for supporting the Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs for their first-ever regional championship.
4.A.9. Thank you to Mr. Doug Ison and Mr. Heath Preston (and family) for their donations to the Jacob’s Ladder Scholarship fund.
