Hindman, Ky. — Several Lawrence Co. Tennis players captured championships in the Compton Cup at the Knott Co. Tennis Complex over the weekend.

On the Men’s side of the tournament…

Soon to be Lawrence Co. Freshman Chase Kendrick won singles titles in 16 and under and 14 and under.

Kendrick along with soon to be Lawrence Co. Senior Blake Maynard won the Men’s B Doubles championship.

On the Ladies side of the tournament…

Soon to be Lawrence Co. Senior Kennedy Gauze won the 18 and under and the Women’s B singles championships.

Gauze along with Lawrence Co. Senior to be Riley Sammons finished runner-up in the Women’s B Doubles tournament.

Kennedy Gauze also won the the Grayson-HOTP 18U Girl’s Singles Champion over runner-up Zoe Karelis this week.

Doug Bentley with the KCC Compton Cup Tennis Tournament

“… Chase played our tournament last year as a 13 year old and won several events.  As reflected above he continues to improve his tennis skills.  He has very solid tennis basics, sound fundamentals, and a great attitude.  As a coach I can see college tennis scholarships offers in his future if he continues to play.”

“… We had 66 entries, the largest for us, we completed it a three day period, no rain delays thankfully.  We had a great group of KIDS and adults.  One girl asked me, “Can we do this every weekend?”  We are very appreciative of all the people that support our tournament.”
