Twenty local government agencies receive nearly $450,000 in grants to preserve records

LAWRENCE CO. CLERK CHRIS JOBE

FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 10, 2019) – The Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA) within the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet announced recipients of the Local Records Program grant funds to preserve and manage local government records.

The Local Records Program helps to preserve, protect and make available records with continuing archival value and assist local agencies with records management through direct services, training and grant support.

KDLA has awarded 20 grants statewide totaling $449,656 in the first round of fiscal year 2020 Local Records Program grant funds. Funds are made available through fees enacted by the Kentucky General Assembly to preserve and provide access to local public records. Any local government agency may apply for this grant.

The first round of 2020 Local Records Program grant funds have been awarded to the following recipients:

  • Bourbon County Clerk – $58,500
  • Boyd County Clerk – $18,000
  • Clark County Judge Executive – $9,800
  • Clinton County Clerk – $12,000
  • Daviess County Clerk – $16,164
  • Franklin County Fiscal Court – $19,950
  • Jackson County Clerk – $7,645
  • Jessamine County Clerk – $23,127
  • Lawrence County Clerk – $13,147
  • Letcher County Clerk – $6,500
  • Mason County Clerk – $10,352
  • Magoffin County Clerk – $27,426
  • Menifee County Clerk – $22,200
  • Monroe County Clerk – $8,840
  • Montgomery County Clerk – $15,000
  • Nicholas County Clerk – $17,937
  • Pike County Clerk – $53,633
  • Rockcastle County Clerk – $12,960
  • Warren County Clerk – $19,500
  • Washington County Clerk – $76,975

“These funds significantly enable local agencies to preserve and provide access to records important to them and the people they serve,” KDLA Commissioner Terry Manuel said. “The public greatly benefits from the work local agencies put into maintaining these records.”

With four regional administrators working with local officials, KDLA ensures professional archival and records management assistance in county and city offices, school districts, and health departments. Local Records Program grant funds have supported work in microfilming, preservation, equipment, automated indexing, digital imaging systems and codification of ordinances.

KDLA provides equitable access to quality library and information resources and services, as well as helping public agencies ensure that legislatively mandated documentation of government programs is created, efficiently maintained and made accessible. I feel confident that Chris Jobe will utilize these funds to preserve and protect as many records possible. Many of these records are handled daily and often abused by their users. May our history be protected. Chris is a devout, and honest Christian and serves in his position well. Thanks Chris for all you have done and will continue to do.
