ROTARY HAS HAD BUSY FEBRUARY…
The last two weeks of Louisa Rotary have been eventful, to say the least.
February 15 meeting
On Thursday, February 15th, Carly Carver, President and CEO of Buddy’s Sensory Exchange was in Louisa to talk with Louisa 
Rotarians about a sensory garden for Louisa.
Considering that Rotary has been interested in putting a garden in Louisa to help fulfill nutritional needs for our community, they are gathering ideas to make it even more.
On top of the nutritional value, a sensory garden is used for guests to touch, taste, admire and listen. It is designed with a purpose of stimulating the senses and can be used by both visitors and disabled adults and children.
Buddy’s Sensory Exchange is a non profit organization and takes applications for anyone within 50 miles of Ashland for special equipment and other needs for other resources to help with disabled people’s needs. Their office is located in Ashland and a sensory garden is in the works at Ashland Central Park.
During this meeting, Steve Lycans and Mike Shapaka both celebrated a birthday during the previous week.
February 22 meeting
The Thursday 22nd meeting began as usual with the traditional prayer, Pledge of Allegiance and the reciting of the four-way test.
Greg Kise and Sherry Compton both recently celebrated a birthday, while guest Elsie Jones celebrated at 28 year anniversary.
This meeting was a special meeting, as Rotary also celebrated its 113 year birthday. After having Birthday cake, Lindsey Case stood and read the History of Rotary.
The meeting continued with announcements.
Dr. Rob Fletcher explained the recent threats at Lawrence County High School and how they had been promptly dealt with. He made it clear that as a father he understood how parents felt and he explained if there was any threat at all, school would not be in session.
He explained that nothing was more important than the safety of our children.
“The attendance the next day showed that the community has trust in our school leaders as it was higher than we had anticipated, and I don’t take that lightly,” Fletcher said.
The speaker for the week, Bud Adams had a family emergency and had to leave during the meeting, the Birthday party continued and the meeting was adjourned for the week.
