(May 20,2019)  LCHS students in the YCC Medical Internship Project presented their health conscious projects to the board. The students mentored by Mrs. Mary Adams and Dr. Spencer Harris were recognized and awarded plaques for their outstanding achievements. The students ranging from Freshmen to Seniors have already got a big lead on their college credits (3-27 credit hours) on their own free time. “These are well rounded children from all different walks of life working together,” Dr. Fletcher said.

“The students that were honored are part of the Youth Career Connect program.  In the YCC program, students participate in several educational opportunities such as dual credit, job shadowing, and many others.  These particular students worked with Dr. Spencer Harris to complete research projects concerning the effects of screen time on students.  Dr. Harris met with these students on regular basis, after school, to guide their research and their findings.  It was a great learning experience for all involved.
The Lawrence County Board of Education also recognized the volunteers with the most hours of work in each of our schools.  Plaques were awarded to Pam Hay (LMS), Shiloe Ham (LWES), Atasha Hughes (LEES), Ginger Copley (LCHS), Marla Spillman (FES), and Jennifer Boggs (BES).  The volunteer with the most hours was Mrs. Pam Maxie with 1,228.75 hours from Blaine Elementary.   The total amount of time dedicated by our volunteers, prior to the Board meeting, was 6,2867.59 hours.  We sincerely appreciate the investment that each of these people have made to be “ALL IN.”
