LOUISA, KY. — The Lawrence Co. Board of Education held their regular October monthly meeting, Monday, October 21, 2019. They discussed the schools state test ratings and the principals spoke on 3 things they’re most proud of and 2 areas they need to work on. They also covered the Financial Audit and buying buses with the security camera packages.

Communication: Superintendent’s Update included the State Test Star Ratings the schools in the County Received. Blaine Middle School was the highest reaching their goal of a 5 Star Rating. Fallsburg Elementary received a 4 Star Rating and Lawrence County High School, Louisa Middle School, Louisa East Elementary, Louisa West Elementary all received 3 Stars.
Dr. Fletcher also recognized Riverside Generating for their continued support of the students. This year teachers received nine $1000.00 grants and one $3000.00 grant for special needs children thru KVEC.

Approved to accept the 2018-2019 Annual Financial Auditor Reports by Darrell Blair of Wells & Company, P.S.C.
Mr. Blair commented, “The School Finance Officer has done a good job and continues to learn the system implemented.” Motion made by Jim See, second by Maddlene Roberts.
Approved to accept the 2018-2019 Lawrence County School District Audited Annual Financial Report (AFR). July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019. Motion made by Barbara Robinson, second by Jim See.
Approved Consent Agenda items: Motion made by Maddlene Roberts, second by Barbara Robinson. Consent Agenda included Per diem and expenses for members present. Contracts and Services such as: NOCTI Biomedical Site Test Agreement with LCHS. Wulfe Brothers Agreements with LEES for performance on Nov. 26, 2019. Charter Bus Agreement with Toblin’s Tours for LCHS Senior Trip to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, TN. on April 24 to 26, 2020. Letter of Agreement for TRMC for Emergency Plan evacuation to use LCHS facilities for patients. Requests for: Fundraisers for Blaine Elementary, LCHS and LEES. Fallsburg elementary received a $4000.00 grant for parent engagement and clothing programs. Dr. Fletcher received a School Transportation vehicle for school business and a truck for the Maintenance Department.

Academic Reporting from Principals: Louisa Middle School: Joey Cecil, Principal reported that, “We made some growth and maintain growth, Reading scores are above State Average and in Math we grew 11 points last year. We are maintaining our goals with Science and On Demand Writing”. Mr. Cecil plans on touring schools and has been speaking with another Principal to learn and practice their system to better LMS.
Mrs. Christy Moore, Principal of LCHS was proud of the transition readiness, graduation at an all-time high and English, Math, Reading are highest in history. To keep up with the high demand nursing, construction and heavy equipment and wants to include the OSHA Test and an Instructor. Also, she would like to see more dual credit classes offered.
Mrs. Anna Prince & Debbie Delong from Louisa East Elementary and Louisa West Elementary reported their reading was up from last year, they are 3 points from being a 4 Star School and proud of sending students to Louisa West Elementary caught up to where they need to be thru Star testing. The LEES and LWES would like to see growth in math and science.
Fallsburg Principal, Mrs. Bowen reported her teachers were excellent and theyhad an Elementary Growth Increase, Assessments Bi-Weekly with teachers reporting on the progress of their students and for reaching a 4 Star rating and the things she would like to improve is proficiency and growth and to reach higher math scores.
Blaine Elementary Principal, Mr. Shawn Jennings is most proud of their 5 Star rating they received, proficiency and growth all above State average. Things to work on is the Math and Economic Disadvantages.
Approved Achievement Gaps Targets for closing the achievement gap in all schools. Motion made by Barbara Robinson, second by Maddlene Roberts.
Approved purchasing of 2 Buses in the amount of $322,878.00 this includes the security camera package. Motion made by Maddlene Roberts, second by Jim See.
