Lafe Smith Hinkle II 71 of Louisa, Kentucky passed away January 13, 2022, at Kings Daughters Medical Center following a brief illness.

Lafe was born October 26, 1950, at Paintsville, Kentucky the son of the late Lafe Smith and Eunice Stambaugh Hinkle. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Debra Short and his Grandmother, Ethel Ward Hinkle.

Lafe was an honorable husband, wise father and an exceptional Pap.  He loved passionately in a quiet manner that those who were lucky enough to experience, will never forget.  He was loyal and committed in every aspect of his life.  He worked diligently in his profession as a banker and friend for those who had the privilege of dealing with him in his professional life.  In addition, he had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh.  He looked for every opportunity to visit with family and friends.  He lived his life at his own pace and on his own time, always looking the part of the professional that he was.  He was always willing to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, and had some advice to any that were willing to listen.  He retired from Inez Deposit Bank in February of 2021 after 29 years of service and 50 plus years in banking.  The banking industry lended kindly to the stylish nature and professional look of Lafe.

He was involved in many aspects of the community and a proud member of the LHS Class of 1968, where he played first chair trumpet and was chosen as Mr. Scarlack. He was also a member of Richardson Masonic Lodge and a Kentucky Colonel. He was very proud of his wife, his daughter, his nephews, his great nieces and loved his grandsons dearly.  Lafe made it a point to see every game or activity that the kids participated in.  Additionally, he supported his desire to help others through his political involvement at the county and the state level.  He served on the local Democratic Executive Committee (chair) and the County Election Board.  He also served as the Chairman of Community Hospice, member of the local hospital board, and Kentucky Enterprise Zone.

Survivors include his loving wife Kathy Pack Hinkle; a daughter and son-in-law Julia and Jason Rollins; two grandsons Jason Lafe Rollins and Jackston Lowell Rollins; a sister Sharon Kinner; a brother Randolph Hinkle; a brother-in-law Bruce Short; Nephew Alan Short and wife Chelsee; Great Nieces Ellouise Short and Lucy Short; Nephew Bryan Short and wife Kelly; Great Niece Lynlee Short; Mother-in-law Linda Pack; Brother-in-law Greg Pack; Nephew Alex Pack; and a host of family and friends.

Lafe (Buddy) will be dearly missed by many!

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 19th at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church Louisa with Rev. Chuck Price and Pastor Chris Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery.

Friends may visit the family on Tuesday January 18th from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home.

A Masonic Service will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society or the First Baptist Church Building Fund.

Care has been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home.

I’m very sorry to hear this. Lafe was a great guy. He was always nice to me: He represented his profession well. He was a credit to the community. Louisa and all will miss him. My prayers go out to his family.

Growing up in Richardson, everyone knew each other. I remember the guys sitting on the store porch, pumping gas & washing windshields – yes this was many years ago, but he was always the same, very cordial when he saw us in town. My prayers go out to Sharon Kay & Randy. Buddy’s wife and family. May you take joy in knowing – this life is only a season, one day you will be reunited once again.
