Louisa, Ky. —  After opening the season with a win over Ashland on Monday night the Lawrence Co. Lady Bulldogs are off to a great start to the 2018 season.

The Lady Bulldogs return a ton of talent and experience from last season’s team which went 17-18 winning the 60th District Championship and falling in the semifinals of the 15th Region tournament.

Seniors Ciana Bowen, who has signed with West Virginia Wesleyan for next next season will be in the circle and bat third, fellow seniors Brittany Shapaka and Keyarah Bowen who both have home run power will also be team leaders this season.

2018 Lady Bulldog Seniors

Junior Catcher Abby Fletcher is steady behind plate and a clutch hitter, Junior shortstop Amber Triplett should solidify the middle of the infield. Junior Chelsey Fields will also contribute

Sophomore Halli Caudill will play center field and lead off, Sophomore second baseman Kassidy Cavins might be the best infielder and is a good hitter. Sophomore Mackenzie Methax will play first base and bat in the middle of the order. 10th Graders Lillian Kinser and Ashley Hayes will provide depth to the lineup.

7th Grader Kensley Feltner will be a nice addition on the base paths.

For the third time in five years the Lady Dawgs will be in a different district, this year they will compete in the 58th District with Betsy Layne, Prestonsburg and Floyd Central.

Betsy Layne won the 58th last season going 6-15 and upsetting South Floyd in the title game.

South Floyd finished runner up in the 58th with a 8-15 record and have combined with Allen Central who went 12-12 to form Floyd Central.

Prestonsburg had a record of 3-19 but return some athletes for this season.

Lawrence Co. will play at Home today vs Raceland and travel to Johnson Central on Friday night.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Moving to a new district always creates some new challenges. I dont know much about Prestonsburg and Betsy Layne and Floyd Central being a consolidation, we have no idea what they have.

“… As for our squad, I think with some time we could develop into a pretty nice team. We are a little thin on numbers but the players we have come in with some game experience. Time will tell as we play our 36 games.”

SENIOR ALL REGIONAL QUOTE

“..I am excited for this season. We started out our season strong against Ashland. If we continue to play like that, we have a very strong chance to go to state this year. I just want to give it my all for my senior year, and I hope we can be successful.”

“… Moving into the 58th district is exciting for us. It is always good to play against new teams. We finished with 3 district championships and an undefeated record in the 60th. We are hoping to continue the success and bring the 58th championship home to Lawrence county!”
