PAINTSVILLE, KY —  For the first time since 2010 Lawrence Co. (28-8) will play for a 15th Region softball championship after a 10-2 rout of Pike Co. Central ( 24-13 ) in the semifinals Friday evening at Johnson Central.

Assistant Coach and Dad Dennis Bowen gives Ciana Bowen a high five after hitting her second homer of the game vs Pike Co. Central.

Lady Dawg Senior slugger Ciana Bowen slammed her 11th and 12th home runs of the year and pitched a complete game allowing four hits and striking out nine Lady Hawks.

Pike Co. Central scored one in the first but Lawrence Co. grabbed the momentum back with a three spot in the bottom half behind a Abby Fletcher RBI hit that scored Amber Triplett and a Mackenzie Methax RBI double that scored courtesy runner Emily Burke and the Lady Bulldogs never trailed.

LC's Kassidy Cavins asked for time after stealing second against Pike Co. Central in the 15th Region Tournament. Mackenzie Methax continued her hot hitting with three hits, Amber Triplett one hit and two runs scored.

Abby Fletcher, Kassidy Cavins and Halli Caudill finished with one hit and one run scored each, Ashley Hayes had a RBI single and Brittany Shapaka scored a run.

Lawrence Co. will face defending Region Pikeville who was a 9-0 winner over Johnson Central at Noon today.

The teams met once this season on April 14th in Pikeville at the Lyndal Potter Memorial with the Lady Dawgs winning 1-0.

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Kenny Horn

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… We didn’t play our best, just didn’t have much of an edge tonight. Not sure if they thought just come up without much effort and win. Pike Central scoring in the first helped us refocus and we bounced right back with three runs.”

“… Usually when we play well the games are close together and this layoff hurt a little. We have put all of the work in this past fall, winter, spring and played all these games to get to this point all the matters now in the 15th Region Championship game on Saturday.”

“… We have been twice to the State tourney but haven’t been since 2010 and eight years is a long time. I want this for the kids it’s a great experience and something they can never take away. I’m looking forward to the opportunity.”
