Laban locks up Louisa Drug for one last time!

Laban Young has officially retired, his last day was December 30th. Laban began his pharmacy career at Louisa Drug Store in 1978 when Sheldon McCreary hired him as an intern. He eventually became a partner here, and at our sister store, Riverview Pharmacy. He has provided over 40 years of health care service to our community and has been a mentor and teacher to many future pharmacists who are practicing throughout the Tri-State area.

“Our customers have always been treated like family and I will miss interacting with each and every one of you. Our businesses have had wonderful employees and have trained many other interns who have gone on to be pharmacists and physicians,” Laban said on his FB page.

“The tradition will continue with young hometown pharmacists Lewis Michael, Dustin Kingsmore and Andrew Goble. My partners Ty McCreary, Jennifer McCreary and Jeff Goble will make sure the ships will run professionally.”

“It certainly is a blessing for a young man raised above a funeral home in Louisa to have such an opportunity to experience this.”

“I won’t be a stranger; you will probably catch me popping in occasionally or tinkering with my cars across the street. I will still be rooting for my beloved Bengals, my alma mater Kentucky, Lawrence County, the Tolsia Rebels and Marshall’s Herd.”

“Peace and love to all! You will be my friends always. As my old friend Eddie Butler said I am not saying goodbye, I am saying later! Thanks to all!”

The Mom & Pop pharmacies as they used to be called like so many other locally owned businesses are a dying breed even in small town America where big chains and one stop shopping have finally caught up and are taking over. Go to WalMart or Rite Aid to get a prescription filled and you have to wait sometimes for 45 minutes. Why? Because they want you to walk the isles and buy something else while you wait. It’s all just business with no personal touch. Louisa Drug will have your prescription filled before you even have a chance to look around, but if you still wanna look around or just talk for a bit…well, thats ok too. Best of luck in your retirement Laban. Like Sheldon, you will be missed.
