Barricade Ends Peacefully For Kentucky State Police in Lawrence County

FALLSBURG, Ky. (June 6, 2023) – On June 5, 2023 at approximately 1930 hours, The Kentucky State Police was contacted by Lawrence County Sheriffs Department asking for assistance on a suspicious person.

Lawrence County 911 was receiving multiple calls of a subject walking through yards and acting erratic.

When units arrived on scene, they made contact with Matthew M. Chaffin (DOB: 6/9/1981), 42 , of Louisa,  who then ran inside the residence and shut the door.  A family member exited the residence and alerted Troopers and Deputies that there were weapons inside the residence, and he would not come out peacefully.

The Kentucky State Police was able to make contact with Mr. Chaffin by phone, and after lengthy negotiations, Mr. Chaffin agreed to come outside.  Mr. Chaffin was then placed under arrest without incident.

Lawrence County Sheriffs Department transported Mr. Chaffin to Three Rivers Medical Center for injuries received prior to this complaint and then lodged at Big Sandy Regional Detention Center where he was charged with an indictment warrant for Wanton Endangerment 1st (Police Officer).
