TRAFFIC SAFETY CHECKPOINTS

On October 1, 2022, a press release statement from the Kentucky State Police (KSP), Ashland, Post 14, which provides coverage for Boyd, Carter, Greenup and Lawrence counties, announced they will be conducting periodic traffic safety checkpoints as approved by the Kentucky State Police Policy and Procedures Manual. These checkpoints will be conducted in an effort to enforce the traffic laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The Kentucky State Police utilizes traffic safety checkpoints to promote safety for motorists using the public roadways and to provide a deterrent for those who violate laws contained in the Kentucky Revised Statutes.

Troopers will be checking for impaired drivers, children that are not properly restrained in child safety seats, and to inform the public about the use of seatbelts. These safety checkpoints will be conducted in various locations throughout the Post Fourteen area that are experiencing a high ratio of vehicular crashes resulting in injury and/or death compared to relatively low safety restraint usage ratio.

KENTUCKY STATE POLICE POST 9, LOCATED IN PIKEVILLE, KY., WHICH COVERS THE AREAS OF FLOYD COUNTY, JOHNSON COUNTY, MAGOFFIN COUNTY, MARTIN COUNTY, & PIKE COUNTY.

On October 4, 2022, a press release statement from the Kentucky State Police (KSP), Pikeville, Post 9, for which they announced they will be conducting periodic traffic safety checkpoints.

In the announcement, it stated that the Kentucky State Police would like to offer periodic reminders to drivers who travel our roadways. “Our agency strives daily to ensure the safety of the motoring public. Some of these proactive measures include various roadside safety checkpoints and saturating known problematic areas in the district through general patrol tactics.”

The intent of a traffic safety checkpoint is to provide high visibility, public safety service, focusing on operator impairment, vehicular equipment deficiencies (confirming appropriate registration and insurance of vehicles) and the valid licensing of drivers. Other violations of law and/or other public safety issues that arise will be addressed.

These checkpoints will allow the Kentucky State Police the opportunity to periodically concentrate its efforts in checking for violations of Kentucky traffic and regulatory laws that will ultimately increase the safety of the citizens within the Commonwealth.

KSP Post 9 serves the following counties: Pike, Floyd, Martin, Magoffin, and Johnson.

Well, that’s pretty cool. That’s a lot of territory to cover. Because it is cooler weather, people tend to drink less water, but the officers need to remember to stay hydrated. I am sure I will be at a few road checks so I will have my papers and license ready to make things go faster.
