WHO ARE YOU? ALLEGED MYSTERY ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT WHO HELD UP A DOLLAR GENERAL STORE 3 MILES NORTH OF PAINTSVILLE IN JOHNSON COUNTY, KY., ON MONDAY NIGHT , DECEMBER 27; & THEN FLED THE SCENE IN THE VEHICLE PICTURED below.

The Johnson County Sheriff Office and the Kentucky State Police are conducting a joint investigation into an armed robbery that happened early Monday night in northern Johnson County, with both law enforcement agencies asking for the public’s help in catching the suspect who robbed a business store.

According to the separate press release statements; the Kentucky State Police-Post 9, in Pikeville, KY, received a call from Johnson County 911 regarding an armed robbery at the Dollar General Store, located at 3047 North US Highway 23, about three miles north of Paintsville, in the Wittensville community of Johnson County, on Monday night, December 27, 2021, at approximately 8:09 P.M., to which then immediately afterwards at approximately 8:10 P.M., Johnson County 911 contacted deputies, who were also dispatched to the Dollar General Store

KSP investigators responded to the scene. The initial investigation indicated an unidentified male entered the building, brandished a firearm, and demanded money from the cashier. The male subject then fled the scene in a dark colored SUV with an undisclosed amount of cash.

“The preliminary information I received is they took somewhere in the neighborhood of $800,”  Johnson County Sheriff Doug Saylor said.

The male suspect is described as 6’0 tall and of slender build. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, camouflage baseball cap, jeans, and a blue medical mask, according to the given description by Sheriff Saylor.

Sheriff Saylor said the suspect is considered armed and dangerous.

Surveillance video footage captured a person of interest walking into the business and the suspected vehicle used in the theft exiting the parking lot turning south onto US 23.

Law enforcement investigators are still searching for the male and asking for the public’s assistance with identifying him.

If anyone has any information on this robbery, they are asked to please call the Kentucky State Police Post 9 in Pikeville at (606) 433-7711; or call the Johnson County Sheriff Office at (606) 789-3411.

KSP Trooper Dustin Thompson is leading the investigation. He was assisted on scene by Johnson County Sheriff Office.
