Summary
Kentucky Power has restored electrical service to 97 percent of 31,000 customers who lost power Wednesday in wind storms with gusts up to 68 miles an hour. During restoration efforts, workers found about 70 poles that were broken or damaged, as well as numerous downed power lines. Transmission structures also were damaged.
Storm Response Efforts
About 510 employees, contractors and mutual assistance workers from western Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Tennessee continued to work Saturday to restore power to affected customers. Many of the remaining outages are in hard-to-reach areas, some requiring bulldozers to build access roads and boats to get equipment into remote areas. As power is restored, many extra workers are being moved Saturday to assist in Pike and surrounding counties, where the majority of remaining outages are located. Most customers should have service by midnight Saturday. Some isolated outages could extend beyond the projected restoration times. As of 11 a.m. Saturday, customer outages remained in these counties:
