Kentucky Power Storm Update Saturday, December 26, 11 a.m.

 

Summary

After a windy and snowy winter storm moved through eastern Kentucky on Christmas Eve, approximately 8,000 Kentucky Power customers were without power this morning.  As of 11 a.m., Saturday, December 26, there are approximately 2,800 customers without power. New outages occurring today account for about 700 of those customers. Crews are finding broken poles, downed wires, fallen trees and road conditions are treacherous in certain areas.

 

Storm Response Efforts

More than 300 Kentucky Power and sister company personnel along with our business partners are working today to get power restored as quickly as possible.

 

Outages and Estimated Time of Restoration

There are outages scattered throughout the Kentucky Power territory. Below are customer count by county and estimated restoration time. The 95% projection means majority of customers will be on sooner.

Breathitt                              237 customers                                95% of customers restored by Sunday night

Clay                                        72 customers                                 95% of customers restored by Saturday night

Floyd                                      55 customers                                95% of customers restored by Saturday night

Greenup                                71 customers                                 95% of customers restored by Saturday night

Knott                                   135 customers                                 95% of customers restored by Sunday night

Lawrence                             23 customers                                  95% customers restored by Saturday night

Leslie                                   795 customers                                  95% of customers restored by Sunday night

Letcher                               224 customers                                 95% of customers restored by Sunday night

Martin                                 67 customers                                   95% of customers restored by Saturday night

Perry                              1,382 customers                                 95% of customers restored by Sunday night

Pike                                   224 customers                                 95% of customers restored by Saturday night

Weather

Various parts of the eastern Kentucky territory reported snow fall ranging from four to eight inches and in some areas the snow was wet and heavier than forecasted, which is the type that can wreak havoc on electrical systems.
