Kentucky Power Restoration Update

Weather

High winds swept through Kentucky Power Company’s northeast service territory yesterday morning and afternoon causing extensive damage, numerous downed trees and power outages for 12,215 customers at the peak of the storm.

Summary

The majority of customers currently impacted by outages caused by the storm are in Boyd (2,972), Carter (456), Greenup (593) and Lawrence (429) counties. Crews are working to replace numerous broken poles, cross arms, transformers and downed spans of wire in each county.

Resources

There are more than 300 line personnel and contractors assisting with restoration, including crews from Kentucky Power’s southern territory and out-of-state resources.

Restoration

Crews have successfully restored more than 63 percent of customers with approximately 4,640 customers remaining without power. There are 267 individual outage cases left to be worked, with 259 of those having fewer than 100 customers on the outage. While the customer count has decreased sharply throughout the day, there is still significant work to be done to restore hundreds of small pockets of customers.

Restoration for all areas will be mostly complete by late Friday. Estimated restoration times can be found atwww.KentuckyPower.com/Outages.
