Ky. Power is teaming up to help flood victims

Ashland area Kentucky Power employees organized a supply drive and collected trailers and truckloads of supplies in just a few short days. Supplies were delivered last week to the Hindman Settlement School.

Kentucky Power FINAL Storm Update

Saturday, August 6, 11 a.m.

Summary:

Flooding on Thursday, July 28 caused catastrophic damage to numerous communities in southeast Kentucky leaving 23,000 customers without power at the peak of the event. More than 900 Kentucky Power personnel, business partners and external resources worked to restore power.

Restoration:

There are approximately 350 customers without power in areas that were heavily damaged. Crews will continue working in these areas of Breathitt, Knott and Perry counties through the weekend. Other agencies such as county and state road construction crews and other utilities are also working in these areas.

The amount of damage and remaining flood debris warrants a post-assessment by Kentucky Power. During this inspection period, we will be assessing for any clean up or additional repairs that may be needed.

Customer Safety Information:

If the electric service entrance (meter loop) to your home or business has been damaged, was submerged or pulled away from the structure, you will need to have it repaired in accordance with the National Electric Code.

We recommend that you contact a licensed electrician to inspect the safety of the facilities inside your home or business prior to turning the main breaker back on after power has been restored to your area.

Flood relief:

Kentucky Power, a subsidiary of American Electric Power last week announced the American Electric Power Foundation will donate $100,000 to four organizations that are working to address immediate needs in the flood-stricken areas of eastern Kentucky. Save the Children, American Red Cross of Kentucky, The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky and Team Kentucky Government Fund will each receive $25,000.

This is the final update for this storm.
