AUGUST 14, 2019 KENOVA, WV
At approximately 12:30 this afternoon, Kenova Police observed a vehicle being driven by Shelly Renee Kilgore of Huntington, who was known to have an arrest warrant on file. There were two males in the vehicle with her.
As officers initiated the traffic stop in the 400 block of 9th Street, they observed suspicious activity by one of the male passengers.
After the driver was removed from the car and placed under arrest, officers attempted to identify the two men. Neither man was carrying a valid driver’s license, and both gave vague information as to their true identity. Officers prepared to tow the vehicle. The driver also consented to a search of the car by the officers.
During the search, Kenova officers discovered four bags, hidden in different areas of the car, containing approximately 200 individually wrapped doses of heroin.
All three were then taken to Kenova Police Headquarters for further questioning. So far today, KPD has filed felony charges against Derrick Elonta Johnson, age 32, of Detroit, Michigan, for Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin. He has been placed in the Western Regional Jail pending arraignment later this week. Charges are pending against the second man, also from Detroit, whose exact identity is still being investigated.
Shelly Renee Kilgore was booked into the Kenova City Jail on the outstanding warrant.
The Kenova Police Department is asking anyone with more information about Derrick Elonta Johnson, who also uses the name Tionte Quinn Stalling, or the true identity of his travel companion, to contact their dispatch center at 304-453-1281. If necessary, callers can remain anonymous.
