Kenny Shapaka

1970 — 2018

Kenny Shapaka, 48, of Louisa, passed away Monday morning April 23 at Pikeville Medical Center.  He was the oldest son of Mike and Alma Shapaka. Kenny was a never failing husband to Melissa Shapaka and father of a lifetime to Amanda, Brittany, Christopher, Sara and Dalton. He also left behind 2 sisters and 7 brothers.

There will be a memorial service Saturday April 28th at Charley Freewill Baptist Church at 6:00 pm.

There will also be a “Celebration of Life” get together and picnic on Sunday April 29th at Boone’s Landing at 2:00 pm. This will be a time for any family & friends to just be together and share any funny stories and pictures.  Please come and bring your pictures and any story you might have to share.

Kenny went to high school at Lawrence County High School in Louisa and was awarded the Diedrich Trust Scholarship when he graduated in 1988. That allowed him to go on to earn his Bachelors’s of Science degree in robotics from Morehead State University.  His dream was to follow in his dad’s footsteps and become an engineer and that’s just what he did.

Kenny has worked over 20 years in the automotive business. He started out at the ground level with a small company in Georgetown, Ky. But if you knew Kenny, you knew he never settled for anything and quickly moved up the ladder with every different company he worked for over the years. When the time finally came to move back to our hometown, he was thrilled to go work for Allevard-Sogefi in Prichard, Wv. There, he found the job he wanted to retire from. He made friends that became like family to all of us.

Kenny’s first love was his family. But his next great love was sports. He loved it all from coaching his kids in little league to ending every night with one of his kids watching a classic sports channel on tv.   His love for the University of Michigan was unexplainable. He was a true Wolverines fan and passed that love on to his wife, their kids and all of his six brothers. He and the great Bo Schembechler will be hanging together this fall cheering their team on to victories.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home
