Louisa, KY- Karen’s Place Maternity Center (KPMC) is tickled pink to welcome its 100th miracle. As of 1:30am Wednesday, September 18, 2019, 100 babies have been born under Karen’s Place Maternity Center’s care.
“100 Lives, 100 Cries, 100 Blessings, 100 Lessons, 100 Fears, and more than 100 Cheers. Today, the family at KPMC celebrate! We celebrate God’s creations! From tiny fingers to little toes, the smiles on everyone’s faces is pure joy for the mother’s with courage to change not one life, but the lives of their children as well,” says Angela Null, Director of Karen’s Place Maternity Center Phase 1.
KPMC is a residential drug and alcohol treatment center for pregnant women. The center provides withdrawal management, stabilization, and residential treatment services for women with substance use disorders, and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. KPMC is operated by Addiction Recovery Care (ARC). Over 80% of babies born into the program have had normal deliveries and return back to the home with their mom within five days or less. This is a greatly reduced Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for these babies.
ARC’s CEO Tim Robinson says reports show Kentucky had over 1,400 babies born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) in 2014.
“Babies born with NAS are born into agony, suffering from withdrawal symptoms and requiring specialized intensive neonatal care. Karen’s Place Maternity Center is designed to be an early intervention for pregnant drug users to receive treatment for their addiction and give birth to a healthy baby.”
KPMC provides clients with over 20 hours of clinical programming weekly, with counseling provided by licensed counselors and state-certified peer support specialists. State-certified case managers work with each client to improve their recovery environment by addressing family, educational, housing, and vocational needs. Medical care is provided at Karen’s Place Maternity Center, with each client seeing a nurse practitioner weekly for their general medical needs. “Celebrating our 100th baby is very overwhelmingly exciting. This means that 100 moms have got to experience this process sober and gotten to be moms to their babies. The maternity center is a place where miracles happen often, and Gods love is shown every day. It has been an honor to watch some of the strongest women that I have ever met get the blessing of not only recovery, but to be the mother that God intended them to be. These ladies inspire me daily, are teaching me in every moment and for that I am grateful” says Aisian Lucas, Karen’s Place Maternity Center Office Manager.
