Louisa, Ky. — Justin Adkins ( 41 ) will be the next head coach of the Lawrence Co., Ky softball program. Adkins will take the reins just as a new $1 million facility for the sport is under construction and should be ready by next season.

New LC Softball head coach Justin Adkins, left,  along with assistant Jason Smith

Coach Adkins and his wife Candy have two daughters. Hallie, who plays softball will be an 8th grader and Karsyn who is in to gymnastics will be in the 2nd grade.

He will be teaching at Louisa Middle school as a virtual/alternative school online teacher.

Adkins has been the Head Coach at Chesapeake ( OH ) for the last three years. He has been Travel ball coach for the Beverly Bandits 2010’s, which is a National program, for three years and the team has been very successful.

He has been coaching for the last 20 years between baseball and softball but the last 5 years in fast pitch.

Adkins is bringing longtime assistant Jason Smith with him from Chesapeake. Sam Sparks and Bobby Preece and maybe a few more from the previous staff will also be assistants.

Coach Adkins plans on playing a lot of the same teams from years past including the annual Myrtle Beach trip and maybe add a trip to Lexington to the schedule.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Extremely happy that the whole process has worked out. Myself, along with my assistant Jason Smith, are really looking forward to continuing the winning culture here at Lawrence Co. that they have built. Excited but also nervous to take over for legendary Coach Kenny Horn who has been here for seventeen years and done a great job.  We hope it is a smooth transition for everyone and continue the winning ways here in Louisa.”

“… It felt like an eternity but the whole process has been really quick probably a couple weeks total before we got the news. Coach Horn was nice enough to reach out and we have gotten to know each other pretty quick and he has been explaining the history of the program and kinda giving us the ends and outs. Plus my daughter knows some of the younger athletes here from playing against them throughout the years so I’m accustomed to them as well. I also went to a few games this year and tried to get a feel for what I’m getting into.”

“… My family is excited to be all together again because my daughters are in the Cabell Co. district and I’m teaching and coaching in Ohio so that will be a welcome change for us. We will be all together and be part of a community and going to the football games on Friday and basketball games in the winter and watch the other sports when we can. I will be teaching online so that will be a little bit of a change, before I’ve done health and P.E. for eight years.  Everyone we have met so far has been welcoming.”

“… Once we get through the dead period we will meet with the returnees and this building will be up before we know it and we can get some work in. I’ve met with a couple of the coaches from the previous staff who will be staying on and we are looking forward to working with them. This will be the first time that I will have an actual staff and can break down into small groups and get a lot of work done. Sam Sparks and Bobby Preece will be valuable pieces to our success. I’m ready to get going when this dead period ends.”

Hello. So what happened to free speech? Why have you removed the various comments made by concerned citizens? Did someone tell you to remove them? There was nothing but truth in them.

We do not get involved in youth sports except to promote them. This is not the format for bashing coaches and/or players. We apologize for allowing them in the first place.
