KENTUCKY STATE POLICE POST 14 INVESTIGATING FATAL COLLISION

 

Ashland, Kentucky – (September 5, 2018) The Kentucky State Police in Ashland are investigating a fatal collision that occurred yesterday evening, at approximately 10:23 PM, close to the intersection of US Highway 23 and State Route 645 in Lawrence County.

William Rice, age 56, of Wittensville, Kentucky, was operating a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo, traveling West on State Route 645, when he failed to stop at the junction of US 23. His vehicle traveled across all four lanes of the highway, and an earth embankment, before colliding with a hillside near the Southbound lanes of US 23. The vehicle overturned and came to rest off of the roadway.

Mr. Rice was pronounced deceased at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Mike Wilson. No other passengers or vehicles were involved in the crash.

The collision remains under investigation by Trooper John Gabbard. He was assisted at the scene by the Lowmansville Fire Department and Net-Care EMS.
